Nature and Nurture

All Ages
Wednesdays10:00am - 12:00pm

Learners build understanding of the core academic principals of modern natural sciences as well as Indigenous ancient knowledge of the natural world. We connect with the natural elements through various outdoor activities including meditation, plant exploration and classification, soil work, foraging, play, insect investigations, scenic observations and nature journaling. We delve into concepts of sustainability, self- and community care as we learn from the ecosystems in nature.

Creative Expression
All Ages
Wednesdays 12:00 - 2:00pm
in South LA
Our learners take space to express themselves through various mediums in this club. With an admiring lense on nature and all her powers, we use movement, poetry, creative writing, improv, African drumming, art and music to express our connection and gratitude.
Wonders of Water

Ages 8 - 15
Fridays 10:00 -- 12:00pm
in South LA
The most precious resource on our planet, water has the power to soothe, hydrate and heal. From the geometric and scientific construction of water, to how it behaves on Earth and in our bodies, to how the Earth and people treat the flow, we connect to the many wonders of water. As we read articles, watch documentary clips, enjoy stories, read data, and conduct experiments, we learn about the intelligence and power of water. We analyze the political and capitalist practices around water, and we dialogue about our responsibility to protect and preserve its vitality.

Young Math Minds

Ages 5 - 8
Fridays 10:00 - 12:00pm
in South LA
Our youngest learners come to this club with intuitive understandings about counting and problem solving. We use the context of their lives, communities, interests, ourstories, and dreams to invite their mathematical thinking. We create and play with math tasks that welcome multiple perspectives and strategies, and we facilitate conversations that inspire them to engage in each other’s mathematical ideas.
With confidence, joy and curiosity, our Young Math Minds continue to develop their counting skills of one-to-one correspondence, sequencing and cardinality. They grow in their natural understandings of skip counting, one less and one more, place value, classifying, measuring, grouping and partitioning. As they create drawings, models, and equations that represent their problem solving strategies, they begin to recognize beautiful relationships between numbers and operations.
Cyberworld Navigators

Ages 8 - 15
Fridays 12:00 - 2:00pm
in South LA
In this club, we share and learn about practices, strategies, and resources that support us with safely navigating the digital world. We discuss the benefits and dangers around us when engaging in online research, using social media, chatting online, and gaming with others. We explore the impact of wifi signals on our health, and the advantages and disadvantages of ai. We practice safe online etiquette as we collaborate in creating content.

Tinkering Club

Ages 5 - 9
Fridays 12:00 - 2:00pm
in South LA
Tinkering is about hands-on experiences, learning from failures, and unstructured time to explore and invent. We tinker as we take things apart, put things together, figure out how things work, and attempt to build and make creations using tools.
With support and safe structures, our young people have space to ask questions, make plans, work individually and collaboratively, imagine, visualize, brainstorm, test ideas, solve problems, revise, and share our creations with others.
We upcycle, using resources from around our homes and community to innovate. We use our senses to explore the physical properties of materials, and build our vocabulary as we describe and make predictions. We explore how others around the world are successfully creating Earth-friendly contraptions for great utility, and we honor the value of reducing waste, refurbishing, reusing, and repurposing items.
Individualized
Learning
Partnerships

Scheduled with each family
Whether the focus is math, literacy, knot-tying, Spanish, sound healing, plant science, or another area of study, this is much more than a tutoring session. A learning facilitator partners with your child to build a trusting relationship, engage in easeful conversations, and develop conceptual understandings in depth. Every session offers a supportive space for reading, writing, mindfulness, and joy. Learners bring their intuitive knowledge, skills and curiosities, and we gently nudge them along in their learning journey.
Coaching Sessions
for Caregivers

Scheduled with each family
As a parent, do you feel guilt, anxiety, shame, helplessness about how your child is “performing” academically? Well, we know and believe that your child is not behind. Rather, each one is on their own divine timeline. Let’s partner together to admire what they are intuitively understanding. Let’s enjoy witnessing the brilliance in their choices, their perceptions, their gifts. And let’s talk about how we can follow their lead into deeper explorations. In our coaching sessions, we respectfully listen and support you as you explore ideas, philosophies, resources, programs, logistics, and communities. We lean into the details of your child’s thinking, and we offer questions and options for you to consider as you plan, reflect, and problem-solve through your adventures of home learning.
